Founded by Henry Ford and incorporated in 1903 the Ford Motor Company or simply Ford, is an American multinational automobile manufacturer based in Michigan, which sells automobiles and commercial vehicles under the brand name Ford while most luxury cars under the Lincoln brand. The company has consistently been ranked amongst the top of various lists, from being the fifth largest automaker in Europe, the eighth overall American-based company according to Fortune 500, to being the second largest US-based automaker and the fifth based on 2010 sales of vehicles. With 90 plants and facilities worldwide and 213,000 employees, Ford was able to deliver 5.532 million automobiles back in 2008 despite the financial crisis it faced during those years. It went near bankruptcy but has since bounced back up to profit.

Besides its famous luxury automobiles, Ford also produces other vehicles such as trucks, busses, and tractors. Furthermore, the company also offers automotive components under the Motorcraft marque and financial services through the Ford Motor Credit Company. They are also also one of the three American constructors, together with Chevrolet and Shelby, to have won international titles at the FIA World Championship. Ford has also won in the World Sports car Championship and in the World Rally Championship.

The company has been in control of the generations of the Ford family for years and has since earned the reputation of one of the largest family-controlled companies in the world.
